The difference between "Koubai" (Red Plum) and "Shiroume" (White Plum) is determined by the color of the wood, not the color of the flowers.
Koubai (plum) is characterized by its heartwood having a pale reddish tint. Its beautiful hue has been cherished since ancient times.

The wood grain of Koubai has an elegant color that evokes a soft red.
Though not flashy, it has an arresting presence. Its fine texture and gentle grain feel smooth in the hand, and its subtle sheen under the light exudes a quiet dignity.

On the other hand, while Koubai is a very hard material, it also has the characteristic of being prone to cracking due to dryness.
This delicacy is also part of the wood's character. It is carefully dried and crafted, and finished with shellac and carnauba wax to allow the wood to breathe.
